Lake Havasu last weekend

I went to Lake Havasu last weekend. It was a perfect 99 degrees. The lovely five-hour drive went by so quickly, watching movies and enjoying special time with my hard-to-catch 17-year-old, Colton.  We stayed in Lake Havasu Springs. My girlfriend Holly has a beautiful home there, and she made it available to us! Lucky me! I jetskied, and went on boats, floated on a raft, and talked Colton out of jumping off a cliff in Copper Canyon. You may recall that two years ago he did it and scared me to death. I just saw it on a rerun for "The Real Housewives of Orange County," and just watching it made nervous.  A great weekend for both of us, but I'm glad to be home.  The Real Estate prices out there are amazing I fell in love with one for $375,000. It has a view of the lake, and it is three houses away from a house owned by Vicki Gunvalson. These are the best prices in 20 years. It's a great place to let your kids grow up. They can go fishing and boating and skiing.

One big happy family, that's us. It seems like Kara hasn't stopped smiling since she left UC Berkeley and started at UCLA at the beginning of summer Colton, on the other hand, looks like he's hiding something.

Shane, in the family business

small headshot  As some of you may know, my son, Shane, is currently making his way in the family business, playing baseball.  Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he plays for the Stockton Ports. The Ports are a Class A Advanced team affiliated with the Oakland A's.The great part about it is he plays in what is known as the California League so most of his games are played here, in his home state. So, when I want to see him play, it’s usually just a couple of hours on the road to places like Lake Elsinore, Bakersfield, Visalia or Rancho Cucamonga all cities with teams in the same league. And, likewise, when he needs some home-cooking or just some of Mom’s  TLC, he’s within a days drive of that, too. Although, as you might expect, he seldom takes advantage of it.  If I can’t drive I listen to game broadcasts on the web

Because of Shane's exceptional speed and reflexes,  he's often called upon to  lay down a bunt or steal a base. he Has 5 stolen bases so far this season. He also has one home run: a timely grand slam.

I heard Maria Shriver speak in 2001

HTML clipboardI heard Maria Shriver speak in 2001 when she spoke to a group I belong to: “44 Women for Children.”  It's an auxiliary of Orangewood Children’s Foundation. Our group helped teens that were being prematurely emancipated from the foster care system when  they turned 18. These teens weren’t fortunate enough to receive the care and guidance that our children take for granted.  We would raise money for them, mentor them and help with their first apartments.  Maria changed my thinking about our government.  She said we all need to help in any way we can, don’t complain, do something.  She was right.  We need to step up to the plate and do our share, Government can’t do it all.

I'm an optimist; if I see something that needs fixing I do it.  I don’t call someone else to do something I can do myself.  If I see someone doing something wrong they feel the evil eye! President  Obama’s administration has created a website,www.serve.gov where users can search thousands of volunteer  opportunities around the United States by zip code.  Spend a Saturday at a soup kitchen and feel the gratitude of the people that are struggling. I myself have volunteered so much I was presented The President’s Volunteer Service Award, created after 9-11 by President George W. Bush.

Waiting for the Knight to alight

When the inaugural Virgin America flight from San Francisco to John Wayne Airport touched
down opening a new route for the airline, I was one of those invited to greet Virgin America
owner Sir Richard Branson who was  along on the flight. Sitting on the tarmac might not look
like a lot of fun, but any day I can  meet a billionaire knight  is a good day.

My favorite shopping haunts: Glitter Girl in Rancho Santa Margarita, has the edgiest fashion from the hottest Project Runway Designs!  La Diva in Rancho Santa Margarita, Aliso Viejo, and Newport Coast, they carry all my favorite brands  such as Sky tops, the must-have for Southern California nights.  Sexy tops, jeans and high heels my personal favorite!  Novecento in Newport Coast has wonderful dress up clothes, pricey but worth it for men and women.  Amazing style, and walking distance to Javier’s  restaurant!
