Don’t Miss ‘The Art of Imaging’

Imaging

Many people are left with scars as the result of injuries and surgeries; Jeffrey Crussell has ended up with a work of art. His three-dimensional piece, a composite of all the head and neck injuries he’s had in his life, was created using medical imaging equipment from Mission Hospital, as was all the other work in this group show. Using X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, the artists have incorporated a personal element in their work—a former tap-dancer uses her old dance shoes and scans of her feet to create a sculpture, while another uses brain tumor images to commemorate the brother she lost to brain cancer. The exhibit comes in advance of the fall opening of Mission Hospital’s new patient-care building, and partial proceeds from the art sale go to the hospital’s foundation. Feb. 5 through 27 at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, 117 N. Sycamore St., Santa Ana. Noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday; 7 to 10 p.m. for the Feb. 7 reception. Admission is free. 714-667-1517, www.occca.org.
